The Power of Fire!

Question: Why is that a book like "Purpose Driven Life" sells over 25 million copies, when most are doing well to sell a few hundred.

A friend sent me a link to Greg Steilstra's site pyromarketing.com. He' s the guy who put together the marketing campaign for it.

Greg has four simple, but effective steps for marketing any product:
  1. Gather the driest tinder
  2. Touch it with a match
  3. Fan the Flames
  4. Save the Coals
To read more about this simple formula or get his entire audio book Pyro-Marketing for free, check out his site. (It's great information.)

My Top Sales Book for 06

I read a lot of books. But none quite as good as Dan Kennedy's No B.S Sales Success. It's by far the best practical advice for any professional salesperson. Probably the most useful information I received was on the art of "takeaway selling".

Dan's a master at this. Instead of running after sales, he uses the opposite approach. He limits his contact with clients. It's using the "less is more" strategy. When there is limited amount of something, then it is perceived as much more valuable.

Why Start a New Blog?

As if there aren't enough blogs already out there, I've decided to start a new one. This one centers on my main profession- selling. After all, it occupies 80% of my time.

I got into the full time sales profession four years ago because for one, I thought I'd be good at it. And two, I wanted to make a bigger income. Pretty simple and straightforward. Along the way however, I learned that I really do enjoy the profession. It's one of the most satisfying professions you can enter.

There's no ceiling on your income (of course there's no floor either) and you have complete freedom as long as you're producing.

I pondered long and hard before creating this blog, wondering if I'd have the time. I already publish one blog on typepad. You can check it out here.

But I decided to commit to it. After all, I need the writing practice. Plus I love to draw cartoons, and that's what this blog will consist of many days. Cartoons about the world of sales and marketing. I'll scan them in as often as I can get them drawn.

No, I'm no Zig Ziglar, but I've done pretty well for myself so far (Thanks be to God!)

I also work as a career coach, helping others who are lost or stuck at a crossroad in life. Maybe this site can be of help to any who are looking for a good pick-me-up as well.
